This is an opportune time to be focusing on self care, and what better way than with your food. Give your body the building blocks it needs, and you can expect better energy & increased vitality. Here are 5 reasons you should be eating for health right now:
Fresh produce is relatively easy to come by these days. Antioxidants are found in abundance in fresh fruits and vegetables, which are known to help boost the immune system and stave off disease. Fresh foods are typically not hard to find these days at the store (unlike the canned or dried staples).
Fresh fruits and vegetables are quick and easy to prepare. Because they are still full of living energy, the flavors are more robust the fresher the item is. Treat these foods minimally and with the right preparation, and they will be bursting with flavor.
Whole living foods are easily recognizable by the body and can be absorbed and assimilated more readily than processed foods. Think of your food as your medicine, healing and repairing your body, and you can expect less time and money spent on treating health issues such as indigestion that may come up from years of eating too many processed foods.
Preservatives, artificial ingredients and sugar can weigh the body down and cause chronic inflammation and lead to imbalance. Incorporating more fresh foods into your diet will automatically cut down or eliminate these toxic burdens from your body. Think of your food budget as an ongoing investment in your health, and it will be easier to make the right choices for you and your family while shopping at the store.
Cooking and food prep can be a meditative activity. I use my time creating meals to focus on putting positive intention into the food so that it can best nourish myself and my loved ones. There is something very soothing in the washing, chopping and cooking of ingredients that in itself feeds the soul. Enjoying a beautiful and delicious dish that also boosts health and wellbeing is one of my favorite pleasures in life, I think!
